East Clear Creek

East Clear Creek is the name of the creek flowing out of the dam at Blue Ridge Reservoir, on top of the Mongollon Rim. Because of the high elevation (8000 feet), this canyon is best visited between mid-April and mid-October. It can be reached by taking a 6-mile dirt road (FR 95) off of Hwy 87, about 9 miles north of Clint’s Well. There is an obvious place to park the car where the road crosses the creek. It’s fun to explore the lush riparian area of East Clear Creek and one of its tributaries coming in from the East for a long list of butterflies including Long Dash and Northern Crescent (pictured), key species for the area.
