Jewel of the Creek

Right next to Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area in Cave Creek, Maricopa County, lays the beautiful riparian area (about 26 acre) with a high diversity of Sonoran Desert flora and fauna, called “Jewel of the Creek”. This oasis in the desert is open to the public from dawn to dusk, and even when the creek isn’t running, like often in the fall, you can still find perennial pools of water that draw in the critters. Along the Dragonfly Trail, besides butterflies and dragonflies, you can also find a great variety of birds, especially during migration. The trail is about 2 miles long, and moderately steep in places, with some elevation differences and rocky areas.
