UPDATED!! Moth Night at Gilbert Riparian Institute (also known as the Gilbert Water Ranch)

location:

Tuesday, August 27, 2019
6:15 PM - 9:00 AM

Here are some additional details: because of the heat forecast, we have decided to meet at 6:15 pm in the Alcott Room at the Gilbert Library first for a presentation on moths, and after it gets dark, we will walk about 0.4 miles on level, smooth trail to the Honeybee Point campsite. There we have set up a black-light to attract moths and other insects. Be sure to bring water and a flashlight, and, if you have it, an easily transportable camp chair. Our expert in all things entomological for the evening will be Margarethe Brummermann (http://arizonabeetlesbugsbirdsandmore.blogspot.com/). Join CAzBA at the Gilbert Riparian Institute (behind the library in Gilbert on southeast corner Greenfield and Guadalupe) for Moth Night. After an educational PowerPoint presentation, Margarethe will set up white sheets illuminated by mercury-vapor light at Honeybee Point, that will attract all kinds of insects. We'll have plenty opportunity to photograph and observe moths, lace-wings, arthropods, scorpions and more, and we will help you ID them. Judging by our prior Moth Nights, you can expect an event that will be great fun for families, kids, entomologists and photographers - just about everyone who enjoys a little adventure outdoors and after dark. Please wear closed-toe shoes and bring a flashlight or headlamp. If you have a black-light, bring it too, as we might find some scorpions! We ask for a small donation of $3 per person. Children 12 and under free.
