e Boyce Thompson Arboretum on Saturday September 11 as we tackle our 4=
th Annual Butterfly Count. Counting starts at 8:30AM sharp, so arrive =
a little early. Meeting place: visitor center of Boyce Thompson Arbore=
tum. The total count circle has a 15 mile diameter and we will conduct=
 a one-day census of all butterflies sighted within that circle. Volun=
teer participants will be assigned to a leader and will be working a p=
art of the count circle area. For lunch we will get together in a loca=
l restaurant in Superior or you can bring your own. Here we will excha=
nge findings & information. 77 species of butterflies appear on the Ar=
boretum's checklist, while the record for most species observed in a s=
ingle day is 38 by John Saba in October, 2005. Xami Hairstreak is one =

for the study of this family of desert plants. Most of the 800 species=
 are displayed in the Cactus Garden and in the cactus greenhouse at th=
e Smith Interpretive Center. There is no restaurant at the Arboretum b=
ut sandwiches, drinks and snacks are available in our gift shop. Picni=
c tables and charcoal grills are available for visitors to use. Regula=
r daily admission of $7.50 for adults or $3 for ages 5-12 includes wee=
kend events such as our May 26 guided Butterfly Walk with Education Co=
ordinator Chris Kline. Summer schedule during May, June, July and Augu=
